THE BLACK BOY, READING

Working together again with Baron's Pub Co, the award-winning collection of family dining pubs in the UK, Concorde BGW were tasked with bringing back to life a beautiful 16th Century building adorned with with a wisteria that happens to be one of the oldest in the country. Briefed in enhancing the traditional features and modernising the essentials, key design elements include lowering the windows allowing in more light and clearer views of the stunning Wisteria, as well as transforming the terrace with a central fire pit and an outdoor bar, crucial in maintaining year-round trade.

Celebrating the historic elements of the building, the design scheme focused on re-enstating the stunning traditional beams and brickwork alongside injecting a splash of light and fun colours throughout - key to Baron's signature style.. Travelling through the building into the restaurant, the guest is invited to conjure up warm feelings of summer days through brightly coloured and botanical patterned fabrics, artwork and bric-a-brac.

Externally, The Black Boy now has a newly landscaped garden with reclaimed timber fixed seating booths, an outdoor bar and pergola, and individually designed sheds reminiscent of those at The Rose & Crown. Through an array of seating options, we have introduced alfresco drinking and dining - no matter what the weather!

"Guy and his team have shown invaluable commercial understanding, making sure we get the most out of the space we’ve got and getting more bums on seats which means money in the till" Clive Price, Managing Director.
