This iconic bar had only a small external area and the brief was to create an exciting garden with contemporary bar area that could be used all year round. This new area would add approximately 40% to the total trading area of the venue.
Pitcher & Piano always take a very active role in projects and they see it as very important that the sites follow their philosophy whilst continuing to evolve their own individual style. This unique site sits between the starkly contrasting architecture of a 19th Century Chapel and Nottingham Contemporary and whilst the build itself took just over three months, project planning and discussions with authorities took over a year.
The beautiful garden area has a continental terrace or piazza feel with street furniture, specialist planting, twinkle lights and festoon bulbs. The added elegance of two grand pianos has been incorporated into the extensive use of creative planting. This mixture of contemporary and industrial external furniture complements the distressed copper signage and metal caged planters. Heaters ensure the outside area can be used throughout the year and the views of the wonderful surroundings add to the feel of being somewhere away from it all.
Within the garden a stand-alone external bar building reflects the contemporary style of the adjoining gallery with a metal framework and sliding glass walls. This bar can be used as part of the main venue in winter or even as a separate function area but it really comes into its own during the summer months as the walls slide open and the whole area transitions into a single bright and expansive space.
The interior style radiates a warm welcome with simple wall lights and a suspended latticework of bulbs casting a subtle glow over bespoke furniture and fittings that exude modern hard-edged chic. An impressive main bar is clad in herringbone timber blending seamlessly with glazed tiles whilst the bar top of white Carrera marble adds a touch of luxury. A simple back bar provides a cool contrast with minimalist metal framework and hidden illumination. Copper table tops reclaimed wood, luxurious wallpaper and crushed velvet fabrics exude comfort whilst hardwearing modern textiles and finishes provide the backdrop to a great night out.
“We are delighted with the new outside area at Pitcher & Piano Nottingham. The external bar and terrace is a welcome addition to our iconic venue, offering an alternative drinking and dining experience for our customers. The glass paneled bar exterior creates a light and dynamic space and the all-weather terrace is a perfect place to relax in the afternoon sun. With covered seating areas and an abundance of outdoor heaters our customers can enjoy great views of Nottingham all year round.”
