The George IV dates back to 1777 and is a flagship pub for a brewery. A fine balance was required in developing a traditional local London pub but adding modern flourishes, attracting more female customers in the afternoon.
This involved considerable historical research including working with local experts to ensure the aesthetic remained relevant to Chiswick. The result is a traditional pub with contemporary twists. To the front, faux timber was stripped and blasted back to beautiful stonework. Ceilings were raised with the full height of the original windows re-instated. Upstairs was transformed into a games room with a feature wall of board games and the courtyard garden was brought to life with an aviary theme and covered seating. The 200 seat comedy venue to the rear was re-imagined as ‘The Boston Room’ with a chic 1920’s aesthetic.
